The General Wolfe Hotel on Wolfe Island went up in 1860 and it's been a part of island and Kingston life ever since. These days the General Wolfe offers two dining experiences: fine dining in the main dining room from 5:30 on and, starting at 7 a.m., breakfast, lunch and dinner in the casual bar. "We do have an enviable reputation for our
nouveau cuising, vintage wines and knowledgeable service" owner Mostafa
Ismail reveals. "And we have the most elegant dining room, set against
the pristine view of the St. Lawrence River. If you are lucky, you'll
get to see the beautiful view of the sunset." The menu in the dining room offers such classic continental cuisine as Steak Diane, flamed in cognac right at your table, Whole Rack of Lamb and Canard a l'Orange. A fine selection of wines, including a good collection of savignon blanc, reserve merlot and merlot/cabernet is available to compliment your meal. But if you are looking for something a little
more casual look into the other side of the General Wolfe. The bar has
pool tables, karaoke nights and a busy live entertainment schedule on
weekends. The General Wolfe is especially convenient for
boaters and those taking the ferry from Kingston. The hotel is a short
walk from the ferry terminal so there's no need to bring your car. If
you arrive in your own boat you are invited to dock at the General
Wolfe's own marina just across the street from the hotel. In the fine dining restaurant at the General
Wolfe, continental cuisine is prepared and presented with
dedication to old world traditions. Dinner is served from 5:30
p.m. onwards, on table cloths adorned with flowers and lit by candles.
On Friday
and Saturday soft piano music plays during dinner and turns to dance
tunes later, for those wishing to take advantage of the intimate dance
floor. The other side of the General Wolfe is the
casual bar, which opens at 7 A.M. for breakfast, lunch and dinner,
pool, karaoke, and live entertainment. Boaters visiting either side of
the Hotel are invited to dock at the Wolfe Island docking facility
opposite the Hotel. For more information on the General Wolfe Hotel we invite you to view their independently maintained website, clicking on your browsers back button when finished, until you return here to continue your international tour of 2010 Golden Fork Award Restaurants of Distinction. |
